Is it ok that i under-age-drank?

Last night a party I had my first taste of alcohol at age 18! Is that OK? I haven't told mom because she's a police and wouldn't approve! IDK what to do! I've always been a good girl. At the party I didn't realize that the girls I was hanging out with put alcohol in my drink until the told me after the party. I need some advice!

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Oh no you drank alcohol. People are already shooting up and smoking crack/doing extacy at your age. You're a lightweight

    • That's not the point! I'm a cops daughter and I honestly didn't know I drank alcohol. If you reread my post (I edited it) it explains it more.

  • You are no more mature at 18 than you are at 21. That being said, people shouldn’t drink until they have fully developed. But hey, prohibiton didnt work for a reason...

As long as you are responsible when drinking, I see no problem.

    • But I don't understand how I will be more responsible when drinking 3 years from now.

      • you wont be (age is just a number)... so, like everyone else, just drink reaponsibly. If you leave your cup anywhere for any reason, just get a new one.

  • What the fuck is the problem. You're 18 years old, makes you an adult, who the fuck says you can't drink at 18. Do you live in some fucking retard middle Eastern country?

    • The law in Georgia says that if you are younger than 21 you shall not drink alcohol of any kind. That's what says I cant drink it! And I am highly aware that I am 18.

  • You're 18. You can fight for your country and legally vote. Drink up! Just don't over do it.

In my day all the cop's kids were the ones who you had to look out for. Were usually the ones throwing the parties and getting in trouble! lol

  • Thank you all for all of the great advice! Some greater than others but I’m not going to get into that! Again thank you!

  • It wouldn't be normal if you didn't. Most people start, or at least are introduced, to their first drink early on. We had a lot of house parties, and I can remember my older sister, who I always got along well with, taking me into the finished basement, just us, and telling me she was ok with me having one or two. Gave me her beer first, even kept her long-nailed fingers on my arm, and said she wanted my first (which it really wasn't..I'd snuck a little earlier) to be with her. We finished off another full bottle, and all she added was a request to not go overboard, even at home.

Best thing was, every house party we'd have after that, she and I would have one together before people started showing up.

    • Wow! My grandpa (this was before he was "saved by the lord") gave my mom her first sip when she was 8! How old were you?

      • I was probably 11 or 12. About the age that most pre-teens start getting curious about drinking. The fact that she did it with me, just us, made it better and more acceptable. She knew I either already was or had started, or, getting interested, so, talking to me and resting her long-nailed fingers (we had a shared thing..fetish for those) on my arm to talk made me pay more attention to her.

She also wanted to make sure that I knew how to pace myself and handle it, even beer, that one wouldn't become 3 in the span of 15 minutes. I never did that anyway.

        • Yeah. I understand.

          Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Yeah, it's pretty normal/common to drink underage. Most people do it tbh. Nothing bad should happen, but it wasn't okay for people to put something in your drink without you knowing about it.

      • Serious question. How the fuck can Jesus fucking care if you keep your blood alcohol under 0.04%? There is no measureable effect on human performance at this level, which is why it is the legal limit for airplane pilots.

  • Not that this makes it “okay” but underage drinking is extremely common. As long as you didn’t drive after or put yourself into a dangerous situation, you’ll be fine. It’s not something to worry about.

    • Technically we were at an all girls sleep over so I didn't drive back home that night.

  • I wouldn't say it's ok since underaged drinking is illegal. But if you did it in a home of someone you trust or in your case you didn't know. I'd say it's ok. But don't do it in public or at someone you don't trust house.

    • Yeah that seems reasonable!

      Comment Hidden ( show )
  • It's okay, it wasn't on purpose.
Just don't do it again if you wanna be smart about it. And especially don't drink anything unless you were the one who poured it, don't drink anything someone gave to you, don't drink something you left unsupervised. It's really dangerous.
    You're fine tho girl!

  • It's ok to drink underage at weekend parties, I did when I was 16 and 17. Don't do it everyday.

    • So it's ok? Will someone have to drive me home if I do?

      Comment Hidden ( show )
      • -
      • Yeh, don't drive if you're plastered. And it's not cool for anyone to spike your drink. I was just saying that it's nothing wrong to go to parties and have a few drinks when you're young. A few drinks though, don't get fall down drunk and don't drink and drive. I should have made that part more clear.

  • If someone was putting alcohol in a drink and you didn’t know it, you need new friends. Next time it could be something stronger (that could make you blackout drunk or even kill you), and if your mom is a cop she should have had this talk with you already.

          • The lesson is you control your own drink, yourself. You pour it and you hold onto it.

  • If you live in America and you are provided alcohol by a parent or guardian and remain under their supervision, it is completely legal.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
    • -
    • Ohhhh do you mean if YOUR parents were to allow you to drink alcohol and you're 18? If you stay in the home and are supervised by your parents/guardian there really shouldn't be an issue.

Anyone else though and in another home, that could present problems legally.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
    • I don't know about that. If someone provides alcohol to a minor (someone under the age of 21) they are breaking the law and if her parents found out could press charges on them.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
    • But there was not a parent at the party.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
      • -
      • It has to be your parent.

        Comment Hidden ( show )

        • Your parents can give you alcohol, they can't for others or allow "Parties" that have alcohol even if they don't know or claim not to know about it.

If the kid leaves the home and does something wrong, then the parents would be in trouble for providing alcohol to their kid.
