Is it ok to be in 10th grade despite recently turning 17?

the fact that there are people as young as 14 in collage makes me feel kinda dumb.

Is It OK To?

  • It's fine. if you feel dumb, then do something about it. Most public high schools aren't teaching you much anyway, other than social skills of being there. the only "real" class there is math, foreign language, and maybe some sciences if you're lucky. the rest is mostly common sense especially when it comes to the standardized testing. you can learn anything on your own these days.

  • Academia isn’t a race, just focus on your own work

  • The fact that you're still in school is all that matters.

  • So you're a year older so what it's fine

  • That isn't real bad. You might be one year behind but fret not.

Shit when I was in middle school we had this 8th grader who was 17. THAT is bad.
Yeah I think he had a criminal record even. Full mustache, beard, driver license, AARP discounts, etc.

I mean damn when someone is in middle school, 17 seems SUPER ancient.

  • I'd just promise myself that I was going to steam ahead as fast as I could and focus on finishing.

It must be really hard for you being so much older than the others, but don't let it get you down. Use it as motivation

  • How old were you when you started kindergarden? 7 or so?

  • Welp as long as you are as smart as a seventeen year old you should be fine in your later years. Don’t get hung up on it as long as you don’t drop out your life isn’t fucked.

  • Everybody's different, my birthday falls in opposite timing of fall semester start so I've always been a year ahead, I was 13 when I was a freshman and I graduated just after my 17th birthday.

I think by 21 they kick you out and some states just give you a diploma by default at a certain age.

Be sure to spell "College" correctly before applying to one though.

  • The best machinist I ever knew couldn't read or write.

My father had an IQ of 181 and had nothing but failures in the first half of his life.

My brother was very good at math but failed 3 grades because he wasn't good at other subjects.

We all have our shortcomings and abilities. Just do the best you can for now and hopefully you will realise your talents one day and make good use of them. :)

  • You're normal, not dumb. I recall back in high school most of the graduating kids were between the ages of 17 and 20.

  • How did you manage that?

    • I got held back due to anger issues due to personal life drama. long story short, threatened my teacher multiple times in 3rd/4th grade.

  • Its not normal, but there's nothing wrong with it.

  • Are you working hard and learning? If so keep up the good work. If not start working harder and ask for help. We all learn differently and we all excell at different things.

  • Try majoring in the Janitorial Arts. It's a low stress pursuit.
