Is it ok to hate my own birthday?

I once looked forward to my birthday, but after I got disowned by my father for a dumb reason (not enrolling into an Advanced English Club) on my 17th birthday, I grew to hate that day. But people keep telling me “It’s your birthday, you should be happy” and such. But no. I just want that day to never existed. So, is it okay at all to hate my own birthday?

Is It OK To?

  • Entirely normal. For many years I hated my birthday after my then husband nearly killed me on my birthday, forcing me to leave him and our child and I subsequently lost custody because the court believed him and not me about his violence.

Bad memories do fade with time though, but it's ok to feel what you feel.

  • I don't hate mine but I'm not excited about it either cause usually i'm home alone and sleep all day

  • Yes and especially if it is just before Christmas like mine since I sometimes end up with only one present.
