Is it ok to hate pizza?

I hate pizza. It's just a piece of baked dough with some ingredients on it to make it less appealing. My mom has tried to make me eat pizza many times, but she failed all those times. I only like the crusts. My mom cuts all the crusts off for me and I eat them. Is this normal? Can I learn to like pizza so my best friend won't be dissapointed if she actually finds out? HELP!!!!

Is It OK To?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • You don't have to like pizza just because everyone else does, relax. It's fine. Any friend who judges you for not liking something they like isn't a friend.

  • Well of course it's "ok", the food police aren't going to come and beat you with a stick.

    • I agree. There really isn't any food where there won't be someone somewhere that hates it. I personally can't imagine hating pizza. There are those foods though that most people like or most people hate, just due to what's popular tastes. Examples of popular tastes: pizza, cake with icing, a good cut steak, cheeseburgers, General Tsao's chicken. Examples of unpopular tastes: kidney, casu marzu (maggot cheese), mountain oysters (testicles), brain, gizzards. Unpopular tastes can also be called acquired tastes.

  • I wouldn't say that it's "normal" to hate pizza, in the sense that you are probably in the minority, as everyone I've ever known likes pizza AFAIK (nobody has ever told me that they hated pizza). As for if it's "okay" to not like pizza, sure, of course. Nobody is forcing you to like it, after all, and I hope most people wouldn't judge you for this. It just means more pizza for those of us who do like it. :)

If you only like the crust, you can always order bread sticks and be satisfied with that.

  • You like what you like, and that's normal.

Your friend likely won't be upset even if she finds out that you don't like pizza, just surprised. If she is mad, then she's just being silly. You sound young being concerned about something so minor, no offense.

I don't like any of the four major condiments: mayo, mustard, ketchup, or relish. I don't eat fast food burgers either. It's never caused me any real problems.

  • Perfectly normal. Many people hate all kinds of foods that most others love. It's a matter of taste. Don't even worry about it.

  • I find a lot of commercially prepared pizza pretty disgusting since it usually has far too much cheese and fatty processed meat piled on it. I've never had a frozen pizza or supermarket chilled pizza that I liked, since the crusts are always like baked cardboard.

The pizza I make at home from scratch is nothing like that crap.

If you don't like bread, tomato sauce or cheese, you'll probably never find a pizza you like. That's unusual, but hardly a crime against humanity.

  • My God, it's food blasphemy! Well, I guess you can like and dislike what you want, but pizza? People are gonna find it strange. Maybe your mom makes crappy pizza, but damn.

Aside from my obvious befuddlement I do wanna point out that there are few things more unappetizing than someone trying to pressure me into eating something I don't want. My mom still tries to push me into eating stuff I don't want despite the fact that she's nearly 80.

I support you in your gastrointestinal endeavors, go forth and eat only you want! I have GERD, so I'm not down to eat what I don't want, or finish everything on my plate just to avoid hurting someone's feelings, because everything I taste I usually end up tasting twice.
    :-(

      • GERD is Hell, but it's a great excuse to not fall prey to being guilted into eating shit I don't want to eat. I don't care if somebody's grandmother spent all afternoon preparing it, I shouldn't have to eat it so as not to hurt or offend someone else. Fuck that shit!

  • If you have a friend that's disappointed by you not being the exact way they want you to be, then your friend is a complete shithead, and it's your fault that you hang around with them.
PS. The pizza thing is completely normal.
