Is it ok to take all pennies out of cash tray?

Just a little thing here, not that big a deal. I was at conveneint store, was 14 cents short, so I took all but one of the pennies out of the little coin tray (14 of them), the clerk did not like it. Was that wrong of me? I know those coin trays are for every customer here or there who is a few cents short. I could tell the clerk did not like it.

Is It OK To?

  • Come back to the store with about 25 pennies for the tray.

  • Throw a dime in there next time you go and call it a wash.

    • Do the clerks usually hate it when you empty their penny tray when you're short? I thought that what it's there for.

      • I don’t think they care, but keep your hand out of the tip jar. ;)

  • It's the same as filling your pockets with mints at a restaraunt. Frowned upon but you didn't kill anyone.

    • I've done that before too, taking too many mints. Lol
