Is it ok to wash my hair just once or twice a week?

So I’m a clean freak. I take showers everyday and I wash hair everyday. But I’ve been reading a lot of articles that washing ur hair everyday is not good for u. Is it ok to just wash my hair like once or twice a week and then just rinsing and conditioning in between? I’m worried that this will break me out cuz I have really greasy hair and my hair touches my face a lot and I’m acne prone. Any advice?

Is It OK To?

  • I wash it daily because it gets itchy and greasy.

    • Daily is ideal for some hair and scalp types especially if you're a teen, it's just less common than having a body that works better on a 2-3 day schedule. Fine hsir, oily scalp and teenager would totally do it lol.

      • Not a teen... if I eat a lot of chocolate on a given day, I'm guaranteed to have a greasy face and scalp.

        • If it works it works. Most people who shampoo every day don't need to, but some definitely do. 🤷‍♀️

  • I wash mine daily if not most I go without is every other day but that don’t happen often. I’ve also heard it’s unhealthy but my hair is healthy I’ve had absolutely no problems washing my hair with shampoo and conditioner daily since probably forever. I was talking to my hairdresser about that and asked her if it’s truly bad to wash it daily and she said it is but even she washed daily even if not she’s still putting dry shampoo or other products in. I don’t have acne or get it super easy and don’t have greasy hair so idk if my answer will help but if you wanna try a couple times a week go ahead and see how you like it your plan doesn’t sound bad. But many people wash their hair daily it’s not gunna make you go bald or some shit. If you enjoy washing it daily do what makes you happy cause idk if you’d see any real difference. I’m curious to know tho.

  • Washing frequently puts stress on the hair try every second day

  • Its individual. I had a very young girlfriend with perfect hair some years ago, she wash and condition it at least once a day, frequent coloring and whatever, it was perfect no matter what. My female friends would ask me what was her secret to perfect hair, thats how great hair she had.
The question we SHOULD ask is: Did anyone improve their hair by washing it less? Im almost sure they just have bad hair to begin with.?

  • Twice a week is ideal for most hair and scalp types. More often if you have fine hair and less often if it's thick. Oily scalps will need washing more often than dry ones. Teens need washing more often than adults (hormones yo). There's an adjustment period when you switch schedules because if you've been washing every day, your body is producing scalp oil in overdrive to replace what's being lost. You can make this less bad by tapering to your new schedule instead of switching it all the way on week 1, and by keeping your hair up and out of your face.

  • Yep, normal and better for the natural oils to make hair healthier 😊

I bathe nearly every day but shower twice a week

  • Wash the time you want, do not be sow too use too little post conditioner can cause dandruff.

  • It's actually good to wash your hair is little as possible especially if you have greasy hair because you strip natural oils out of your hair when you wash it and then your scalp will want to produce more to compensate. If you wash less your scalp adjusts eventually.

  • There's absolutely no need to wash your hair every day: why? Once or twice a week, depending on how oily your hair or scalp is, is quite often enough.

  • I used to have super oily, dandruff infested hair, and oily, acne prone skin.

Until I worked out a good range of products that work well for me, and a good routine.

My hair is about waist length. I had got to the point where I could shampoo once a week (twice in summer). Nowadays, it's twice a week, but meh. I rarely condition, but I do use a leave in split ends treatment every time I wash it.

You can extend time between washes by using a dry shampoo, but I never found one I liked, so I'd just push through.

  • I usually shower everyday as well as shampoo and conditioner. I have oily skin so skipping showers or shampoo scrubs isn't an option.

  • 3 times a week is usually good and recommended, especially to avoid dandruffs and odor.
Use a regular shampoo more often than special shampoo. You don't need to use a special shampoo all the time.
And you should also skip shower once a week to let your skin recover.

  • You have to train it. I only wash my hair once a month. The shampoo takes all your natural oils and shit out and then the conditioner replaces it with fake shit.

        • I'm sorry but that's really dirty. Clean people wash their hair way more often. You have no idea how much bacteria, microbe and dirt your hair are storing in the span of only one day.

            • "How Much Should You Wash Your Hair?
For the average person, every other day, or every 2 to 3 days, without washing is generally fine."

“Regardless of how your hair feels, though, don’t go longer than 14 days, ever,”

              Webmd.com

You can do whatever you want of course, but don't pretend to be a clean person. Because you're not. Sorry.
