Is it ok to wear leather shoes/carry leather bags if one is vegetarian?

I want to buy things that last long and are comfortable so it wont end up in the landfill faster or made of synthetic, usually petroleum-derived, products.

Is It OK To?

  • You're not really a vegetarian if you buy leather products (unless you're a vegetarian just for diet reasons). Animals are still being killed as a result of what you consume. Besides, buying leather products has a worse result on the environment than buying non-leather products, even if they don't last as long. The cows bred to make those leather products release tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, causing global warming. Leather is terrible for the environment.

  • Just get second hand stuff if you can find any in good enough condition.

  • You can do whatever you'd like, there are no set rules. I'm a vegetarian but I eat fish even though the fishing industry is harmful. I just prioritize my health. It's up to you to decide what your personal moral code is.

  • Depends on reason you are vegetarian

  • It’s okay as long as you’re jawing a nice pull of beef jerky, preferably terriaki flavored.

  • No. You should be naked. If an animal hasn't suffered in the process then the environment does.
