Is it okay to be alone and not wanting anyone?

I usually stay away from people, whether it's family, friends or relatives, I always find a reason to not to be together, and I rarely miss anyone, I dunno whether it's normal or I have become cold hearted.

Is It OK To?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

    • When I'm really depressed I wake up disappointed I didn't have another heart attack in the night and other times like you, disappointed I'm not still asleep.

The trick if I'm not too depressed is to make sure the night before that I have something to look forward to the next day, even something small.

      • I don't know. I feel I have nothing to look forward to I suppose.

        • Is that a recent change? You usually seem more positive.

          • Thanks, very much. I guess I feel positive when I can contribute something that helps another person with a problem. I also feel good when I can say something silly, or obnoxious that makes people laugh. Oftentimes I just don't know what to do with myself. It's embarrassing, but true.

I'm grateful for this website, and for my Siamese cat. I wish I could have grown up with a Siamese cat, or two, maybe I would have been a different person in the long gone hours of when I was much more desperate, and lonesome of a person. I my sister, and I grew up with a couple of dogs, and lots of other animals, and I really wish that my mom had not insisted on keeping the dogs outside. I think it's better for domestic animals like dogs, and cats to live indoors with their families especially when children are involved.

I should at least be grateful that I grew up with lots if pets. There's something very sad to me about children growing up without animals!

            • My grandma had siamese cats before i was born, but its cool to see those cat pics from the 70s or so, he was well taken care of. There are even pics of her childhood pet dachsund, from probably the 30s or 40s. I grew up with a lot of pets too, unfortunately a lot of them were poorly cared for in my opinion but I was never allowed to do anything about it.
Do you go to therapy for your depression and anxiety?

          • Depression and anxiety are near constant struggles for me, but sometimes are worse than others. I'm glad that you see me as a relatively positive person. 🙂

  • Very normal

  • If you're happy and content, then it's normal for you. I go through times of loneliness, then spend time with friends and family and enjoy it, but then enjoy returning to the company of myself and my dogs, my book and music and my garden.

  • Same as you. I see you as just independent and a loner. Nothing wrong with that. Cut people out and many problems go away. Just concentrate of making your own world comfy and full of self love. I find most people draining and two-faced anyway. I just like meaningless contact.
